The University of Kiel is offering 2 PhD positions in Biochemistry
in the group of Prof. Dr. Christoph Becker-Pauly starting on October 1st, 2022.
The group is embedded within the Collaborative Research Centre CRC877 and the Cluster of Excellence ‘Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation’ and has particular interest in the function of proteolytic enzymes. Our aim is to obtain a profound understanding of proteolytic processes in cellular regulation and signaling and to define the involvement of such processes in human pathophysiology, such as systemic inflammation, fibrosis and neurodegeneration.
To succeed, we combine different approaches: biochemistry, cell & animal models, and proteomics (e.g. Peters et al., 2021, Matrix Biology; Wünnemann et al., 2020, Nat Genet; Wichert et al., 2017, Cell Reports; Schönherr et al., 2016, Mol Neurodegener; Broder et al., 2013, PNAS).
We invite highly motivated PhD candidates for an application who want to work in an encouraging interdisciplinary field that connects basic research with clinical trials. Candidates should have a strong background in biology/biochemistry/medicine. Experience with protein expression, cell culture, aquatic sports, and mouse models is advantageous but not mandatory.
The salary is in accordance with the German Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst (TVöD Bund): salary group E13 (65%).
Interested candidates should send their cover letter, a CV and contact information of one or two referees in PDF format by July 31st 2022 to
